Following a stunning return to west London last season, the Brazilian defender has appeared in just 17 games for the club this term across all competitions due to a bad run of injuries and loss of form.
In fact, his last appearance for the Blues was in their 4-1 defeat against Watford at the start of February as the 30-year-old has been forced to watch on from the sidelines with knee and ankle injuries keeping him out of action.

There were some suggestions that he was to be available for the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday - although Antonio Conte denied those rumours in his pre-match press conference.
"David Luiz is out at least for another three weeks," the Italian told reporters. "He's recovering from a problem in his knee."
As a result, Luiz watched on as his teammates fell to a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge in a result that has left them eight points behind Spurs in the race to seal a top four spot in the Premier League his season.
With seven league games remaining, the Blues are in need of a mini miracle to qualify for next season's Champions League. However, their bid to reach the final of the FA Cup could be boosted with the imminent return of Luiz.

Chelsea face Southampton in the semi-final at Wembley in just under three weeks time and the defender appears to be targeting that game to make his long awaited return.
In a short video clip posted on his official Instagram account, Luiz is working hard on a bike and the caption reads: "Never give up".
Conte's side are back in action against West Ham United this weekend and
while Luiz is unlikely to make the squad, it seems his return will come
sooner rather than later.
