The 41-year-old is understandably keen on returning to his former club, however, having just lost Eden Hazard, Lampard is concerned about the task facing him at Stamford Bridge and wishes not to tarnish his reputation with the fans.
But the Telegraph claims Lampard will be told he will be given time and barring a huge downturn fortunes he will be given at least one full season at the helm, after signing a three-year deal.

Chelsea are content to pay £4m in compensation to Derby for Lampard given they received £5m from Juventus’ appointment of Maurizio Sarri. Jody Morris is likely to join Lampard as assistant coach once he makes the move but it remains to be seen whether Gianfranco Zola is kept on.
