According to Standard Sport, Antonio Conte was keen to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens , however, the Chelsea board blocked it because of his age.
Mertens turned 30 back in May and finished his fourth season in Italy with a massive 28 Serie A goals, his best of his whole career.
The Belgian international only just put pen to paper on a new three year deal over at Napoli.
Blues fans are keen for Conte to kick off his summer transfer plans and Premier League champions Chelsea have plenty of cash. As they look to replace the outgoing Costa the disagreement over Dries Mertens will surely have left Conte’s fustrated.
